“But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.” Deuteronomy 4:29 (NIV)
Have you ever noticed how we always find time for what truly matters to us? We check our phones countless times, binge-watch our favorite shows, and make room for the people and passions we love. Our priorities reveal themselves through our actions, not just our intentions.
God invites us into this same kind of intentional pursuit—but with an extraordinary promise attached. Unlike earthly treasures that may elude us despite our best efforts, God guarantees that wholehearted seekers will find Him. He does not hide from those who genuinely long to know Him.
The phrase “with all your heart and with all your soul” demands our attention. This isn’t about adding God to an already crowded schedule or offering Him the leftovers of our day. It’s about reordering our lives around the greatest treasure available—knowing God Himself.
Think of it this way: A child searching for her father in a crowded mall doesn’t casually browse while hoping to bump into him. She calls his name, strains to see above the crowd, listens intently for his voice. Her entire focus narrows to one thing—finding the one who loves her most. When we seek God with that same undivided intensity, we discover He’s been standing there with open arms all along, waiting for us to truly look.
Scripture establishes this promise as foundational: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8). “The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him” (Lamentations 3:25). God actively pursues relationship with us and rewards those who earnestly seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
Faith reveals a stunning reality: every step we take toward God is a response to the steps He’s already taken toward us. We seek because we are sought.
So what does wholehearted seeking look like in the ordinary moments of your day? It begins with a simple prayer.
