I BELIEVE

“…that whoever believes in Him…”

Inspired by Max Lucado’s 3:16: The Numbers of Hope.

Two weeks ago, we discovered that God Loves. Last week we explored what that Love moved Him to do: He Gave. Now we come to our part in this divine exchange: I Believe.

Believing in Jesus is the pivotal moment when God’s gift becomes personal. It is the difference between admiring a lifesaver hanging on the wall and actually grabbing hold of it when you are drowning. Belief transforms Jesus from a historical figure into your personal Savior.

The Gospel does not say “whoever understands all theology” or “whoever lives a perfect life.” It simply says “whoever believes.” That single word throws the door of Heaven wide open. No complicated requirements. No spiritual hoops to jump through. Just believe.

But what does it mean to believe? It means accepting as true that Jesus is who He claimed to be—God’s Son—and that His death and resurrection accomplished what He promised—our salvation. When we believe, we are saying “yes” to God’s invitation into relationship with Him. This act of belief is the doorway to salvation—it is how we receive the gift God has offered through His Son.

True belief changes us from the inside out. It gives us a new identity as God’s children. It brings peace in our storms, purpose in our confusion, and hope in our darkest moments. Belief is not something we do once and forget—it is the foundation upon which we build our lives, day by day, decision by decision.

Some struggle with belief because they are waiting for every question to be answered first. But belief is not the absence of questions—it is choosing to trust despite them.

The beautiful truth of the Gospel is that God invites us to come just as we are—messy, doubtful, broken, and imperfect. There is no cleaning up required before believing. No minimum standard to meet.

God does not expect us to fix ourselves before coming to Him—that is His work, not ours. The invitation to “whoever believes” includes you in your present state, with your current struggles. You do not have to become someone else to be welcomed by Jesus. He is waiting for you—exactly as you are right now.

When sharing with others about belief, speak from your own experience:

“Believing in Jesus gave me a peace I could not find anywhere else.”
“My life changed when I stopped just knowing about Jesus and started knowing Him.”
“Belief was not the end of my questions, but the beginning of finding real answers.”
