Discovering the Heart of God – Attributes G through L

As we discovered in a previous devotional, our Heavenly Father calls us to receive His attentive care, welcome His good gifts with gratitude, embrace His loving correction, rest secure in His devotion, draw strength from His power, and live freely in His forgiveness. These truths have already begun reshaping how we see our Father’s heart toward us.

Today we continue building on that foundation as we explore six more ways our Father reveals His perfect love.

Heavenly Father,

As we gather in Your presence today, we come with hearts eager to know You more deeply. When Jesus taught us to pray “Our Father,” He opened the door to the most intimate relationship possible with You. Open our eyes to see Your heart, our minds to understand Your character, and our spirits to receive the fullness of Your love. Draw us closer to who You truly are—not only as our Creator and King, but as our perfect and loving Father.

In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen.

Gentle: “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” — Matthew 11:29 (NIV)

Our Heavenly Father approaches us with tenderness, never harsh or demanding beyond what we can bear. His gentleness is not weakness—it is strength under perfect control. When we are fragile or learning, He handles our hearts with care, knowing exactly how much pressure we can sustain.

Hopeful: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and a future.’” — Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Even when circumstances seem uncertain, our Father sees beyond our present moment. He holds tomorrow and fills us with hope because He knows the beautiful conclusion He is writing. His confidence about our future rests not in possibility, but in His sovereign power.

Inclusive: “Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.” — Colossians 3:11 (NIV)

Our Father’s family has room for everyone. He does not show favoritism based on background, status, or past failures. His love crosses every dividing line. When Jesus said “Our Father,” He emphasized the “our”—this relationship is open to all who call upon His name.

Just: “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; love and faithfulness go before You.” — Psalm 89:14 (NIV)

Our Father’s justice is perfectly balanced with His love. He stands for what is right and defends the vulnerable. His decisions flow from wisdom and integrity. Even His discipline serves loving purposes, shaping us toward maturity.

Kind: “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.” — Titus 3 (NIV)

God’s kindness toward us is not earned or deserved—it flows from who He is. His kindness appears in unexpected moments, in gentle reminders of His care, and in the countless daily provisions we often overlook. This kindness moved Him to save us while we were still sinners.

Loyal: “If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” – 2 Timothy 2:13 (NIV)

Our Father’s loyalty to His children never wavers, even when our faith falters. His commitment is not based on how well we perform, but on His unchanging nature. He remains faithful through our doubts, our failures, and even our wandering seasons. His loyalty is the steady foundation we can rely on, no matter what storms we face.
