Where I Am, There You Will Be Also

“Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” – John 12:26 (NIV)

Jesus spoke these words knowing exactly where His Path Led—through betrayal, suffering, and death toward resurrection glory. His Invitation to follow was not sugar-coated. It was honest: “Come with me, and you’ll go where I’m going.”

What makes this invitation remarkable is not its ease, but its destination. When we choose to walk alongside Jesus, step by step, decision by decision, we do not just adopt His Morals or imitate His Behavior. We share His Journey toward the Father’s heart, where His Honor waits for those who truly serve Him.

This honor is not something we accumulate through spiritual achievements. It flows directly from our proximity to Jesus. The closer we stay to Him, the more we find ourselves wrapped in the same love the Father has for His Son. We become recipients of a relationship we could never earn but are freely invited to enter.

Discipleship requires laying down our own agenda, our comfort zones, our need to be in control. Yet Jesus does not ask us to walk anywhere He has not already gone. Every sacrifice He calls us to make, He made first. Every difficult path He invites us down, He has already traveled. We follow a Savior who understands our journey because He walked it first.

The most beautiful part of following Jesus is not where we are going, though that destination is glorious. It is who we are walking with. Each step taken in His company transforms us a little more into His likeness, until we discover that the honor we are walking toward has been surrounding us all along.
