Discovering God’s Plan Through Your Personal Journey

“Let each person examine his own work, and then he can take pride in himself alone, and not compare himself with someone else.” – Galatians 6:4 (CSB)

Have you ever felt stuck, wondering what direction God wants you to take next? Sometimes the answer is not found by looking ahead, but by looking back at the path you have already walked with Him.

The apostle Paul gives us wisdom in Galatians about self-examination without the poison of comparison. He understood something profound: God has been preparing you through every season of your life, and the clues to your future calling are written in your personal history.

When we measure our lives against others, we lose sight of God’s Individual Design for us. Social media makes this worse—we see highlight reels and wonder why our behind-the-scenes does not measure up.

But God is not calling you to be someone else’s sequel; He is calling you to be the original He created you to be.

Comparison is a double-edged sword that always cuts deep. Looking “up” at others breeds insecurity, while looking “down” fosters pride. Both rob us of the joy found in discovering our unique purpose.

God works like a Master Gardener—He wastes nothing in your story, not the victories, struggles, or mundane seasons. Every chapter has been preparing the soil of your life for something specific.

Consider my friend Sarah, who felt directionless at 35. When she reflected on her life, she noticed something remarkable: from organizing neighborhood kids’ activities as a child to coordinating office events as an adult, she had always been drawn to bringing people together. God had been planting and watering those seeds of connection throughout her entire life. Today, she leads a thriving community outreach ministry, and the harvest is more abundant than she ever imagined.

Set aside time this week to walk through your life story with this same gardener’s eye. Consider each season and ask: What consistently energized me? Where did I see results? What challenges shaped my character? What dreams stirred my heart? Look for recurring themes—they are the seeds God planted that are connected to how He designed you to serve. Do not dismiss anything as “too small.” The Master Gardener often plants seeds early that He allows to grow slowly, knowing the perfect season for harvest.

When you understand how God has been cultivating your story, you can step into the future with greater confidence. You are not beginning from nothing—you are building on rich soil He has been preparing for years.

Your next season does not require you to become someone completely different. It requires you to become more fully who God has been growing you to be all along, trusting that the seeds He planted are ready to bear fruit in ways you may never have imagined.
