Called by Name

“Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher)” John 20:16 (NIV)

In the garden tomb, Mary Magdalene stood weeping, searching for her Lord among the shadows of grief. Then everything changed with a single word: her name. When Jesus spoke “Mary,” it wasn’t just identification—it was recognition, intimacy, and restoration wrapped in two syllables.

The beauty of this moment reminds us that our relationship with Christ is deeply personal. He does not address us as a crowd or a category. He knows our name, our story, our heartbeat. Just as Mary’s world shifted from despair to joy when she heard her Savior speak her name, we too can experience that transformative encounter when we recognize His Voice in Scripture.

This personal encounter awaits us in the pages of God’s Word. When you read of His Faithfulness, insert your name into His Promises. When Scripture declares “I have loved you with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3), hear Him speaking directly to you. The truths of Scripture are not abstract principles—they are love letters written with you in mind.

This assurance of His Personal Love becomes the bedrock of your faith. When storms come, when doubts whisper, when the path grows steep, you can stand firm on this truth: the God who conquered death also speaks your name with tenderness. And in speaking it, He has claimed you, chosen you, and commissioned you to reflect His Light wherever you go.
