“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” — Romans 8:37
Life can deal heavy blows. Circumstances, people’s actions, or past wounds may tempt us to embrace a victim mentality. But as believers in Christ, we have a profound truth to stand on: we are not victims — we are victors through Christ Jesus.
This isn’t about denying our hurts or minimizing real pain. Rather, it’s about embracing the transformative power of the Gospel that moves us from victims to victors. When Jesus rose from the dead, He didn’t just survive death — He conquered it. And as His followers, we share in that same conquering power.
Those who are saved by faith in Christ conquer terrible things because Christ has already won the most important victory for us. That victory — our place in God’s family and our share in the inheritance of His glory — cannot be taken from us by any means.
As I begin my BCG treatments tomorrow, I need to shift from victim to victor. As a victim, I say, “Cancer happened to me.” As a victor, I say, “God will work this for His glory.” As a victim, I say, “Why me for 14+ years?” As a victor, I declare, “Through Christ, I will overcome in His timing.”
As I faithfully read His Word, it reflects the truth about my victory: “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4), and “Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ” (2 Corinthians 2:14).
Being a victor in Christ doesn’t mean we never face difficulties. It means we face them with the confidence that our God is greater than any challenge we encounter. We are not defined by what happens to us, but by who we are in Christ — and in Him, we are always victorious.
