Inspired by Max Lucado’s 3:16: The Numbers of Hope
Two simple words that change everything: God Loves.
These opening words from John 3:16 establish the foundation for all that follows. It is not that God used to love, or that God might love someday. God loves—right now, always.
Notice the small word “so” tucked between “God” and “loved.” In the original Greek, it carries the idea of manner and intensity. God so loved—with such depth, such passion, such completeness. This is not a distant or theoretical love. It is personal, active, and sacrificial.
In 3:16, Max Lucado writes: “God’s love never fails. Never. Though we may spurn Him, ignore Him, reject Him, despise Him, disobey Him, He will never change. Our evil cannot diminish His love. Our goodness cannot increase it. Our faith does not earn it any more than our stupidity jeopardizes it. God does not love us less if we fail or more if we succeed. God’s love never fails.”
God’s love has remarkable attributes. It is steadfast—unwavering when we waver, constant when we change. It is unconditional—we cannot earn it and we cannot lose it. It is generous—always giving, never taking. It is persistent—pursuing us even when we run. It is patient—waiting for us without giving up. This love defines who God is and shapes everything He does.
And whom does God love? “The world.” That means everyone—the person who cut you off in traffic, the neighbor who plays music too loudly, the coworker who takes credit for your ideas, the family member who hurt you deeply. God loves each person with the same intensity with which He loves you.
God’s love in action changes everything. If His love is the foundation of our faith, it must also become the foundation of how we treat others. When someone asks about your faith, begin where God begins—with love.
When sharing your message, speak from the heart:
“I have discovered that God loves me just as I am.”
“God’s love is not something I earned—it is a gift.”
“His love changed how I see myself and others.”
