As we begin this sacred journey through Holy Week, I encourage all of us to engage in deep reflection on the significant events that shape our faith and understanding of Jesus Christ. I will be sending a devotional for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Silent Saturday, and Resurrection Sunday. Each one presents a unique perspective from a 13-year-old Hebrew child, Cabel, inviting us to explore the essence of Jesus’ love, sacrifice, and the life-changing power of the Resurrection.
Palm Sunday sets the tone for our journey, inviting us to witness Jesus’ Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem through the eyes of Caleb. This perspective reminds us of the simplicity and joy that faith can bring, as well as the initial celebration that would soon give way to profound sorrow.
Before we walk with Jesus on His sacred path to our salvation, let us reflect on and remember the meaningful moments that came first. On Monday of Holy Week, Jesus entered Jerusalem and drove out the money changers from the temple, demonstrating His righteous anger against the corruption and commercialization of sacred space. He declared that the temple should be a house of prayer, reaffirming its sanctity and purpose.
On Tuesday of Holy Week, Jesus engaged in teaching and confrontation with the religious leaders, responding to their challenges and offering parables that conveyed deep truths about the Kingdom of God. He also foretold the destruction of the temple and spoke of the signs of the end times, urging His followers to remain vigilant and faithful.
Wednesday of Holy Week is often referred to as Silent Wednesday. It is a day of contemplation and preparation. The Gospels indicate that Judas Iscariot conspired with the chief priests to betray Jesus on that day. This serves as a reminder of the growing tension and impending betrayal as Jesus continued His ministry under the shadow of the looming Crucifixion.
In the days ahead, we will explore more deeply the meaning and significance of these sacred moments in the journey. Consider this a preview—a brief glimpse into the powerful experiences that await us.
Maundy Thursday takes us into the heart of the Last Supper, where we encounter the theme of the Suffering Servant. We will reflect on the humility and servanthood demonstrated by Jesus, challenging us to embody that same spirit of love and sacrifice in our own lives.
Good Friday places us in the shadow of the cross, a day of solemn reflection as Caleb and his father, Benjamin, observe the events from a distance. As we contemplate this sacred day, we confront the realities of pain and sacrifice that Jesus endured for our sake. It is a time for deep introspection and gratitude for the immense love revealed through the Crucifixion.
On Silent Saturday, we enter a period of sacred stillness, embracing the pause and waiting that Shabbat represents. This day calls us to be still, to reflect, and to prepare our hearts for the hope and joy to come. It reminds us that even in our waiting, God is at work behind the scenes.
Finally, Resurrection Sunday concludes our journey with overwhelming hope and celebration. We reflect on the seven days that changed everything, drawing parallels to Caleb’s journey from the palms of praise to the astonishing reality of the Resurrection. This day proclaims triumph over death and the promise of new life, reminding us that every ending is also a new beginning.
Throughout this week, I encourage each of us to engage deeply with these devotionals, allowing the themes to shape our understanding of Christ’s journey to the Cross and His glorious Resurrection.
May this Holy Week be a time of meaningful introspection, renewal, and joy as we journey together with Caleb toward the gift of everlasting life.
