Living in Divine Assurance

Inspired by the hymn *“Moment by Moment”* (1893) by Daniel W. Whittle with music by May Whittle Moody

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” — Matthew 6:34 (NIV)

Through years of uncertainty and countless moments when the future felt overwhelming, I have discovered something beautiful about how God cares for His children. His faithfulness is not delivered in massive, overwhelming packages that I must somehow carry—it comes gently and consistently, moment by precious moment.

The hymn writer captured this truth: “Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine; moment by moment I’m kept in His love; moment by moment, my life from above.”

There was a time when I planned years ahead, mapping out detailed expectations for what lay around the corner. But life has taught me that each moment already contains everything I truly need—breath for my lungs, strength for my steps, peace for my heart. I am not asked to carry tomorrow’s burdens today.

When Jesus taught us to pray for “daily bread,” He knew what I would need to learn: that His grace for this moment is perfectly fitted to this moment’s reality. Not yesterday’s struggles. Not tomorrow’s unknowns. Right now.

This realization has reshaped how I face overwhelming circumstances. Instead of drowning in “What if?” I have learned to rest in “Right now, I am held.” I may not have strength for the entire storm ahead, but I have exactly what I need for this step.

In each moment, God’s love is not a distant promise—it is my present reality. His life flows into mine as a continual stream of renewal, sustaining me breath by breath, heartbeat by heartbeat.
