Praise in God’s Perfect Plan

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:4-7 (NIV)

When Paul wrote these words to the Philippians, he wasn’t writing from a place of comfort and ease. He was in prison, facing uncertainty about his future, yet his letter overflows with joy and thanksgiving. His command to “rejoice in the Lord always” wasn’t based on circumstances, but on the Unchanging Character of God.

Today, as I reflect on encouraging results from my recent physician visit regarding my bladder cancer, I’m reminded that my praise isn’t dependent on favorable reports or answered prayers in the way I expect. Like Paul, I’ve learned that my praise is rooted in who God is—Faithful, Loving, snd Sovereign over every detail of my life.

When my physician, who is also a sister in Christ, saw how God was healing my bladder naturally, she literally raised her hands and shouted “Hallelujah!” Her medical expertise recognized a miracle, but her heart of faith knew the source. Her advice to me was profound: “Focus on how far God has brought you—seven months cancer-free! Stop worrying about the future, leave it in God’s hands, and go live life to its fullest.” Even through my doctor, God was reminding me of the very truths Paul wrote about.

Paul’s progression in these verses reveals God’s perfect plan for handling life’s uncertainties:

First, we rejoice (v. 4) – Not because everything is perfect, but because the Lord is Perfect. Our JOY finds its source in Him, not in our circumstances.

Then, we show gentleness (v. 5) – When we’re anchored in God’s Goodness, we can extend grace to others, even in difficult seasons. “The Lord is near” reminds us that His Presence Changes Everything.

We replace anxiety with prayer (v. 6) – Instead of worrying, we bring everything to God “with thanksgiving.” Notice that thanksgiving comes before we see the outcome. We thank God for who He Is and for His Faithfulness, even while we’re still presenting our requests.

Finally, we receive His peace (v. 7) – God’s Peace doesn’t just calm our emotions; it “guards” our hearts and minds. It stands sentinel over our thoughts, protecting us from fear and despair.

Whether I’m walking through the valley of diagnosis, traveling the path of treatment, or standing in the sunshine of encouraging news, God’s Plan Remains the Same: He wants me to find my JOY in Him, bring my concerns to Him in prayer, and rest in His Peace that defies human understanding.

Encouraging news is a gift to be celebrated, but my deepest praise flows from knowing that God is working His Perfect Plan in every season—the difficult ones and the JOYFUL ones alike.

Prayer

Lord God, my Healer and Redeemer

Thank You for being worthy of my praise in every circumstance. Thank You for encouraging results and hopeful news in my cancer journey, and help me remember that my JOY is ultimately found in You. When anxiety about the future tries to creep in, remind me to turn to prayer and thanksgiving. Guard my heart and mind with Your Perfect Peace as I continue to trust in Your Plan for my health and my life. May my journey be a testimony of Your Faithfulness through every season. To You be all the glory, honor, and praise. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Thought for the Day

Today, I can testify to the truth that has sustained believers for centuries: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” — Romans 8:28
