My pathology report came back today – praise God for no cancer anywhere in my bladder. Plan of care consists of one preventative treatment every week for six weeks starting late February.
“The dark moments of our life will last only as long as is necessary for God to accomplish his purpose in us. “ Charles Stanley
As I serve God, I know that I will have adversity for God’s Purpose. Adversity can be my greatest motivation for spiritual growth, or my means of discouragement. I want to learn from adversity and not to be defeated by it.
Webster defines adversity as a state of serious difficulty or misfortune. I am curious how God’s Word defines adversity.
When adversity comes, I am suddenly faced with problems too big for me to resolve. My inward response should be, “O Lord, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat” Psalm 25:1-2 NLB, but is this what I do?
As a child of God, I know the Holy Spirit is living within me and He knows how much I can endure. Psalm 34:19 reads “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but God delivers him out of them all.”
Biblical truths affirm that God’s Goal for my adversities is spiritual growth. Adversity is God’s way of deepening my faith and commitment to Him. After He has brought me through a specific adversity, the foundation of my faith and trust in Him is strengthened (1 Peter 1:6-7.)
My priority prayer needs to be: ‘Father, I am going to lay this adversity down before You. I am going to trust that You know what is best for my life and that You have the best plan for me, whether I understand it or not. So, I am going to surrender myself to You. Lord, I do not understand it all. I wish I did, but I do not. But I am going to rest in Your faithfulness.’
Praising and thanking God can help me get a positive outlook for my day. I need to put one foot in front of the other. Shift my path back to obedience and faithfulness to God.
Finally, I must learn, read and hear God’s Word. The part of growing spiritually is applying God’s Word. There is a tremendous difference between knowing and doing; so apply His Word to your life.
