“But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
In our journey of faith, we often encounter seasons of physical struggle that stretch far beyond what we believe we can endure. When weeks turn into months of discomfort, pain, or limited mobility, our natural response is to ask, “Why, Lord? Why must this continue? Why won’t You bring healing now?”
I have been walking this path through bladder therapy complications that have extended across eight difficult weeks, with persistent pain and wellness that seems just out of reach. Many times, I have asked those same questions.
What I have discovered in this prolonged season of waiting is something I might have missed in a quicker resolution: God works profoundly in our waiting.
Our timelines rarely align with God’s perfect schedule. We long for immediate healing, yet God sees the spiritual endurance being formed through perseverance. We crave instant relief, yet sometimes the deeper healing unfolds within the struggle itself.
When Jesus healed, some miracles were instantaneous while others unfolded gradually. Each had purpose. Each revealed different aspects of His character and cultivated different dimensions of faith in those He touched.
What spiritual growth might you be experiencing precisely because your physical healing is taking longer than expected? What deeper conversations with God, what clearer understanding of His character, what greater compassion for others might be developing that a quicker resolution would have prevented?
Throughout these eight challenging weeks, God has been doing something unexpected—transforming my personal struggle into devotionals that resonate deeply with others. What began as my attempt to understand God’s timing has become a ministry touching those who face similar struggles. This extended season of suffering has cultivated insights I could not have gained otherwise, giving these reflections an authenticity that speaks to wounded hearts. I share this not to draw attention to myself, but in humble awe at how God transforms our difficulties into instruments of His grace—proving that no season of waiting is wasted when surrendered to His purpose.
Today, I invite you to join me in surrendering our timelines to God’s wisdom. Not “my will be done,” but “Thy will be done”—even when that will includes a longer season of difficulty than we would choose.
In that surrender, we often discover that the true miracle is not only the healing we awaited, but who we became while we waited. As Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
